The Cross-border Spring Tiki Tour

A translation sprint in February followed by two consecutive weeks of TikiFests and industry conferences in March present the perfect opportunity to learn more about Tiki and become more involved with the Tiki Community.

Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware a des capacités multilingues extrêmement robustes, et celles-ci seront présentés dans le cadre de Inuit Uqausinginnik Taiguusiliuqtiit Language Standardization Symposium à Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada, 7-11 Février 2011.

Pascal St-Jean, un actif contributeur de la communauté Tiki et directeur du développement commercial chez Citadel Rock Online Communities, seront présents à la promotion de nouvelles normes par le biais de l'atelier Média et Technologies. St-Jean vous montrera comment Tiki a promu des normes internationales multilingues (tels que la Cross Lingual Wiki Engine Project).

La Communauté Tiki a récemment commencé à utiliser un nouveau processus de traduction interactive qui contribuera à la traduction additionnelle (et plus complète) de Tiki dans la prochaine version 7 ... y compris une version en langue Inuit de Tiki.

Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware has extremely robust multilingual capabilities, and these will be featured as part of the Inuit Uqausinginnik Taiguusiliuqtiit Language Standardization Symposium in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada, February 7-11, 2011.

Pascal St-Jean, an active Tiki Community contributor and Director of Business Development with Citadel Rock Online Communities, will be present at the Promoting New Standards through Media and Technologies workshop. St-Jean will demonstrate how Tiki has promoted multilingual and international standards (such as the Cross Lingual Wiki Engine Project).

The Tiki Community has recently begun using a new, interactive translation process that will contribute to additional (and more complete) translation of Tiki in the upcoming TIki 7... including an Inuit language version of Tiki.

Tiki Training Day in Quebec City on December 8th

A day of training for Tiki will take place in Quebec City on December 8, 2010. The Tiki in Quebec City day is hosted by AFI Expertise and will be in French. People interested in wikis, thinking about starting a Tiki website, already managing one, or ready to start customizing Tiki are welcome.

TikiFest London ended last week, making several important contributions to Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware. This code sprint saw:
  • Implementation discussions of a Tiki Project Management feature
  • Planning the Tiki Tracker Revamp
  • Exploration of the removal of deprecated features (such as PHPLayersMenu, Image Galleries, and Xajax)

Elsewhere in Europe, Tiki Community members are proud to announce the formation of the German Language Tiki Users Group. One of the first goals of this group will be to use Tiki's interactive translation feature to continue to improve the German version of Tiki. TikiFest Berlin Wrap-up

The Tiki Community completed its most recent TikiFest (code sprint) in Berlin last week. TikiFest Berlin (co-located with WikiFestBLN Nov 12-14 in Berlin, Germany) provided an opportunity for Tiki developers, end-users, and supporters to meet and plan the future of Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware.


Many topics were discussed and much work was done for the upcoming Tiki 6.1 release including:

  • Improving Tiki.org server infrastructure
  • Gentoo build for Tiki distribution
  • WYSIWYG strategy
  • Non-interactive TRIM (Tiki Remote Instance Manager)
  • Multi-level content and Tiki structures, based on perspectives and dynamic groups
  • Registration procedures for parent-child and teacher-student scenarios

TikiFest New York: A Great Success

More than a dozen members of the Tiki Community met in New York City October 3-6 for the last major code sprint before Tiki 6. Many others participated virtually through Tiki's integration with BigBlueButton.


Although much of the event was focused on preparations for the Tiki 6 release, additional work was completed, including:

  • Continued integration with Kaltura video-editing platform
  • Work on the Tiki TV project for collaborative editing
  • Public presentation of Tiki at the Casa Frela Gallery to the local NYC community and online Workshop on Tiki Workspaces
  • Planning for Tiki7
  • Discussion on the future of trackers, spreadsheets and accounting

Tiki Community members also took the opportunity to meet with BigBlueButton and Kaltura team members during the Open Video Conference and participate in the OVC hack labs. Special thanks to the Kaltura Team!

TikiFest Tampa: Introducing the Florida Tiki Users Group (and beyond!)

If you're in the Tampa, Florida area September 24-26, be sure to join us for TikiFest Tampa. This event is organized by the newly created Florida Tiki Users Group.


Planned events include a Tiki Boot Camp for new Tiki admins and discussions of more advanced topics such as Tiki Profiles and Workspaces. In addition to these technical topics, a social dinner event is also planned.

Beyond Tampa: The Brazil Tiki Users Group
And in South America, the Brazilian community is forming a Tiki Users Group. The Brazilian community has long-been a substantial contributor to the Tiki Community, is planning a TikiFest, and has a dedicated support mailing list in Brazilian Portuguese. TikiFest New York: Countdown to Tiki 6

Members of the Tiki Community, including developers, end-users, advocates, will be meeting in the Big Apple from October 3-6, 2010. This TikiFest will be the last major gathering before the release of Tiki 6.


The TikiFest, a long-standing tradition of the Tiki Community, is a chance for community members (who do not normally meet) to get together, socialize, and further the development of Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware. More than 40 of these "code sprints" have been held throughout the world.

In addition to preparing for the upcoming Tiki 6 release, TikiFest New York will also planning for Tiki 7, celebrating Tiki's 8th birthday, and an open demonstration hosted by Casa Frela Gallery (details below).
