wysiwyg editor for wiki

I'd like to incorporate a WYSIWYG editor for the Wiki and Articles feature. Has anyone successfully integreated a external tool (such as Edit Live! for Java) with their wiki? Or how about simply taking the WYSIWYG editor from the Blog feature? Can that be ported to other features easily?

Thanks,

It can easily be ported but the output from such "editors" is HTML and you will need to convert this into Wiki markup before saving into the database. Blogs get around this by saying HTML output, but in Wiki pages, that can be very risky. You need a HTML to Wiki Markup convertor creating before even dreaming of this feature.

There are Word and Open Office macros on this site which can be used to make editing easier for those users who are scared to learn the syntax. However if your thinking about Wysiwyg, maybe you should re-consider using a Wiki in the first place.

What about taking one of the open source WSIWYG editors (FCK Editor is what I am leaning towards) and modifying it so that it outputs wiki format?

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like I'll be writing my own converter for EditLive! for Java. I'll make it available if anyone else is intereseted in a WYSIWYG editor.

Thanks,

It's a good idea that WYSIWYG for articles, but i think WYSIWYG for wiki is not necessary. Wiki is base on structual text.Articles is data base for my mostly requirement, and i maybe have high frequency copy&paste from other source, so WYSIWYG is very importent for my requirement.
Has a easy way to use WYSIWYG editor with aricles? who can help me?

Ricks99, in response to you postings in my topic...

I've managed to incorporate FCKEditor with my Tiki Wiki installation but in actual fact its a hack more than anything else. It might not work under all scenarios, but my users are not a very demanding bunch, so just HTML editor for them would suffice.

Environment used:
- EasyPHP 1.8
- Tiki Wiki 1.8.5
- FCKEditor 2.0-rc3

Here are the steps I took:
1. Install EasyPHP,Tiki WIki and basically get it up and running.
2. Install FCKEditor's 'editor' directory into Easy-PHP 'www' directory.
3. Search within the tiki directory 'templates_c\en' for the file 'tiki-editpage.tpl.php' and override it with the attached copy.
4. Run and test.

Known Limitations (anyone out there reading this pls help):
1. I hate step (3) above since modifications are made to files within 'templates_c\en'. I wish someone could tell me how I may replace step 3 and do a proper modification involving changing an actual *.php or *.tpl file. This is my first time playing with Wiki and I know nuts about PHP so I've got 0 idea how to work around this.
2. Limited WYSIWYG functionalities. All wiki posted must be within a HTML table. What I do is always create a 1x1 table with 100% width and 0 border. Then edit within that table.

Zwiki over in the zope world allows for kupu to be its wysiwyg editor and still maintains both html and wiki markup. could a similar approach be taken here ?

the reason why i think that wysiwyg for wiki is great, is it capability to easily capture information and cross link it using wiki functionality, kind of your own knowledge base.

just my $.02.

One other comment is that once you've got the WYSIWYG editor working, you'll also need to sync the CSS for the editor with that of the wiki or the formatting you get will not match.

I've had some struggles with the FCKEditor and Java on Firefox. Surprisingly it worked fine on IE... Go figure...

Rick, and other, have a look at the evolution of TikiDav. It allows nowadays (since v0.2) to work with OpenOffice as wysiwyg editor for Wiki, Articles and Blogs.
