Code Standards...

I am not a developer, and probably will not become one, but... I thought I would post this to solicit responses.

http://gallery.menalto.com is one of the most sophisticated image galleries in the open source world... in the closed source as well I might add.

~They have a java 'Remote Control Module'
~They are in the pre-alpha phase of developing Version 2.x (wich includes a decent API and a significant amount of abstraction on numerous levels) as we speak
~They have significant experience and a vested interest in embedding the gallery as a PHPNuke module. (which effort could easily be channeled I believe)
~They have a pretty robust coding standard
~They have at least tested using Smarty layout for their theme engine

all in all, image galleries being pretty central to TikiWiki, maybe the effort going into gallery can be used here. This is already a very mature product in its 1.x releases, and the 2.x code is still 'wet'.

I could be interested in digging into this, but currently do not have the time.

I agree that Gallery is a very good application but I fail to see what it would offer more than the already splendid Tiki galleries? The golden rule for deciding against or in favour of integrating 3rd party apps into the Tiki codebase should be whether the benefits of adding the application will outweight the costs of integration, maintenance of usability.

Regards,

Pat.
