ok first time even discovering tikiwiki. great product, HOWEVER, impossible to find SIMPLE answers. I have to wade through hundreds of documentation and STILL DO NOT get the answer I want.

for 2 weeks, trying to figure out the ...page... Wiki page pagination has not been enabled. or ... page .... function for making multi-pages w/in a tiki article. try searching for that via this site and see what you get.

2nd, tried finding answer for what is obviously a common problem as evident by the hundreds of questions online, but no answers:

Only variable references should be returned by reference in home/lib/webmail/htmlMimeMail.php on line 402

as such I can't recommend this to users who are interested in an all in one solution. free sometimes ain't good. this would have been a great slap in the face for services charges and providing lesser quality. but when I can't find answers to the ACTUAL features "out of the box" it means 1 of 2 things:

the persons writing the information are NOT users
the persons writing are writing from the standpoint of they'll understand what I mean. yeah right!

I spend all day answering questions and figuring out people's problems, I don't have weeks to spend to find answers to problems DIRECTLY related to ACTUAL features.confused

and here's another part of the inability to find documentation regarding features:

the following error is returned

An error occured in a database query!

Context:

Url /tiki-searchindex.php?highlight=multi-page&where=articles&search=go
Query:

Values:

You need to repair the table. the sql instruction is
repair table tiki_searchindex;
You can type it under phpmyadmin ( there is evenb a button for that)

Did you ask in the forums? I recall one question about that function but the user didn't see the effect because he was only checking the preview and not the saved page. Was that you? As I recall, the post was answered.

Did you look carefully at the Tiki editpage itself? "Multi-page pages: use ...page... Wiki page pagination has not been enabled. to separate pages" is item 6 in the Wiki Help notes at the page bottom. Did you type "...page... Wiki page pagination has not been enabled." somewhere in your text and save the page to see what happens? I figured out quite a bit about Tiki just by doing simple experiments.

Out of the box is a moving target, I'm afraid. There are more people developing the program than writing the docs.

> the persons writing the information are NOT users

The persons writing the information ARE users, and often developers as well so they don't have much time to handle support. But what I see is that they are very willing to help when they are asked a question. I think the main bottleneck is that they don't necessarily visit these forums much and IRC can be hit-and-miss depending when you're on line. Some patience and perseverance is definitely needed.

> the persons writing are writing from the standpoint of they'll understand what I mean. yeah right!

Sorry, but I think the people who write the docs and answer questions are sincerely trying to do the best they can. Keep in mind they are volunteers doing this because they like the program and want to help the community. They/we are well aware that the docs continue to need improvement, but it's slow-going.

Tiki has evolved rapidly and the documentation has lagged behind the feature growth. The documentation therefore is a work in progress and the "support staff" is people taking time out of their busy schedules to help others. Needless to say, if this isn't satisfactory, you have the alternative of paying for a commercial program.

BTW, a question about the MySQL error you quote in your other post was also responded to by a developer in the last day or so, as it has been in the past. Don't know if that was your question or someone else's.

I don't mean to make excuses, but the criticisms should be kept in perspective.

yup tried in various places. in once reference documentation I saw "... page ..." (w/space in between), but w/in the wiki edit/page feature "...page... Wiki page pagination has not been enabled." tried both options, neither worked. only ...page... Wiki page pagination has not been enabled. would show up w/in the text of the articles.

and yet still it's 2 weeks later, and still no info on the HTMLMimeMail.php line 402 error problem whenever mail is sent using any module. I entered my server name w/in the host variable setting w/in the htmlMimeMail.php file. the error stopped, but now mail not sent.

it's a great tool for those who know web dev and web basics. and I've set up a major site that I will manage for which tikiwiki will be the only interface. and that site will have a direct referral to this site.

but I deal w/folks that I'm trying to turn away from solely depending upon Microsoft and discover open source which is more quality than commercial stuff. but it's hard when stuff like this is happening immediately after setup — not w/an add-on, but after installation.

Thanks. My daughter took my photo with the digicam in "burst" mode; then I whittled the image down. Lotta virtual coffee consumed since then. wink

Is this still not working? I'm using it with a 1.9.2 Tiki install with no problems. What Tiki version are you using?

I agree that Tiki's rather intimidating for newcomers, especially if they don't have some experience with uploading and running php scripts, etc. But, believe it or not, it has improved over time. (One gem in its early documentation history is the PDF Tiki 1.6 manual, which is still a good way to get a handle on the program.)

Normally Tiki works as advertized in a new install. But "normally" assumes the right installation environment, admin settings and knowledge of features, wind direction, humidity, solar flare activity, etc. wink

If you can edit the php file lib/webmail/htmlMimeMail.php and change all the "function
&" with "function ", it will work. Otherwise take away the notice in
admin-> genral-> php error

You need to understand how the open source works!
There is some good books around
