Ldap user authentication/searching

I have recently installed Tiki-2.2 due to some of the features present in it. However, the ldap authentication module doesnt appear to allow a specific CN to be used. To get around this restriction(not all ldap users need to be able to login to this wiki) I have created the users manually and enabled the add user to tiki if present in ldap option. This appeared to work earlier, however I cannot now get the users to authenticate unless I use the tiki password. Is there a way inside tiki to setup a specific CN to use for authentication or must I have each individual user login, disable the logins, and then only allow ldap authentication and remove their ability to change passwords?

I have read conflicting accounts of how this system should work and the documentation provided does not specify in enough detail as to how the tiki ldap module works.
