Registration Email

posts: 11

Hi I've searched everywhere I can think of, including all of Tiki-10.0 directory contents and it's MySQL DB (using phpmyadmin), to find where the Registration page (http://godhelp.co/tiki/tiki-register.php) gets it's text and email from for "Note
If you use an email filter, be sure to add to your accepted list ". I want to either edit or remove the email address from public viewing ans spam bots, but can't find where to edit it. Does anyone know where it is ? Thank you

Thanks for the tip, very helpful. I find that a Remarks Box is used to display ie the Note "If you use an email filter, be sure to add -email address- to your accepted list".
I've searched for possible code where the content variables for the Remarks Box is assigned or used, but can't locate anywhere in the code (eg smarty_block_remarksbox) or MySQL database (using phpmyadmin). I tried looking at Firebug too, but no help there. Thanks for any insights.

Note
If you use an email filter, be sure to add -email address- to your accepted list

Quick workaround maybe: If your site is single lingual you can find the string in lang/en/language.php and customize it while copying lang/fr/custom.php, editing it and put it in lang/en/ folder. At the time of Tiki upgrade the file will not be overriden then.

Thanks for the ideas, I wasn't able to locate the string in language.php (or the mysql DB) for some reason - as far as i know the site is single lingual.

I found it, the code is in user_registration.tpl. Using {* *}, i commented out the section for the remarksbox, and the Registration page is no longer insecure to Spambots or public viewing.

 {tr}Note{/tr}

{tr _0=$prefs.sender_email|default:"this domain"|escape}If you use an email filter, be sure to add %0 to your accepted list{/tr}
{/remarksbox}

Thanks for all your help.

While this will work, the downside is that you're new users will no longer know from which email address to expect their registration message. I've found that many new users need to be informed of the specific from address, so they can whitelist it.

I think a much easier solution (and the one I normally use) is to make my Tiki's Sender email address be an out-going mailbox only (something like do_not_reply@mytiki.com. This avoids the issue of worrying about spammers sending messages to you.

Just a thought...

Thanks Rick, I'm not sure how an email address for a domain can be made outgoing only - never seen this before. Alternatively, the Remarksbox could just tell new users to check their spam or other folder for a confirmation email, if it isn't in their inbox, (as i've seen on some sites) ? Outgoing only email would be good if easy to setup.
