How to provide access to files for the public

Hello All,

As an administrator to a Tiki site, how do I provide access to view html pages and files that have been uploaded to the site?

Currently I am able to provide access to a view of the external link to the uploaded file, however, when I click on it as a public user, I only get a blank page.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

So fa I know ...
1) if it is uploaded in a wiki page via TikiIntegrator ... easy as the file name doesn't change
2) if it is uploaded via file galleries and the file data are in the database... you need tiki tiki-download_file.php?fileId=xxx
3) if the file data are on the disk in the server path, there is a rename of the file .. perhaps you can find a way to find the new name

Thanks Sylvie,

This might be very helpful. Actually I just used the MyFiles section to upload the documents. Is that the same as TikiIntegrator?

It is the MyFiles section that I am trying to make public. When I try to get into the page as a non-admin and click on the links, it shows a blank screen. I was thinking of solving that issue with external links.

Let me know what you think.

Anand,

Assuming you are referring to 'File Galleries' when you say 'MyFiles', make sure your site visitors and/or registered users have the appropriate permissions:

tiki_p_view_file_gallery

tiki_p_download_files

Thanks Sridhar,

Here is the issue: Those permissions you mentioned are not there. I am not really sure how I can create a file gallery. There are only options to create an image gallery.

I uploaded the files as an admin. They are located in the MyFiles section under MyTiki. I am guessing that I have to move these files to a file gallery. This is where I am stumped.

I appreciate any insight into this matter.

Thanks,

Anand

If the File Galleries feature isn't already activitated, turn it on on the Admin/Features page (tiki-admin.php?page=features). On the File Galleries page (tiki-file_galleries.php), there's a link to create a new gallery. After you make the new gallery, you'll see, in the list of galleries, its permissions icon where you can indicate what group can access the files.

MyFiles is meant for personal use, not for shared access. I don't know of any way to move those files to a file gallery. I believe you will have to upload the files again directly to a file gallery (and delete them from MyFiles).

Thanks Gary,

This is good. However, here is the big question: How do I create a file gallery in the first place? I have looked all over the site for the option, but there is none.

Thanks

Go to http://tikiwiki.org/TikiMovies and look at the flash movie on creating and using file galleries.
