OK - I've now fixed the 'cosmetic' aspect of this by editing tiki-calendar.tpl, tiki-calendar_nav.tpl and tiki-calendar_calmode.tpl since the month/day format was hard coded. If anyone would like the details I've posted them as patches to the Bug/Wish Tracker.
Still grappling with the import function - but I'm not really sure now if this is still current since there are no links to it from any of the screens and whilst 'playing' earlier today I crashed the database and had to restore it. Not sure what happened but if anyone has any current info on Calendar import I'd like to hear from them.
