Re: 12.0 -> 15.0 upgrade. Files issue.
Let's first confirm that the files themselves are not corrupt.
Since you're storing files in the directory, you can simply rename the file to its original name (for example, from 00ae1b56043bf16b80740346d3352aff to myfile.gif).
You can grab the file from your webserver, copy it to your PC, then rename it.
Are you able to open the file?
