Is there a way to display custom images as icons in the menu?

Hi,

I've just come across some utube tutorial on how to create a blog using tikiwiki and I've noticed icons next to menu options on the page the tutorial is using - see attached screenshot (see icons on the left).

Is there a way to put custom images to act as such icons?

Please share if you know how to do this. It would be a lovely cosmetic upgrade to my site :-)!

Thanking you

Your screenshot shows an old menu type that no longer exists as a feature, but can be replicated one way or another. One approach is to activate "Configure icons for menu entries " when creating or editing a menu (at a URL like tiki-menu-edit?menuId=48&modal=1). I haven't done this recently so am not sure of the details - you may be restricted to icons in the icon sets that come with Tiki or that can be added (see examples at https://doc.tiki.org/PluginIcon).

Another approach is to use the "Menupage" module instead of using a standard menu. Here you make a menu in a wiki page, so you can add images freely, and then configure a "menupage" module with the wiki page as its content. See https://doc.tiki.org/Module-menupage for details.

Hi,

Yeah. The screenshot was taken from some youtube tutorial. It does not represent the menu I have on my website. Was just used as an example of what I was on about, roughly.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
I shall give it a go with the 1st option since I already have my menu the way I want so wouldn't like building it from scratch using a different approach.
Will be in touch once I have some progress, or problems... :-)

Thank you, again.

Hi,

Just enabled icons in menus. Now, when I go to edit a menu option I have an empty field at the very bottom called "Icon:" Would this be for a path to a file? Would such a path need to point to some specific folder in my root directory? I'm asking, 'cause I tried some and nothing worked, i.e. no icons / images got displayed next labels of menu items.

Please help, if you can

Thank you

Hi,

Just to end this chain as well.
This is the second thing that has turned into a total NO GO.
Again, just like in relation to Theme adjustments that I also had huge problems with, this only proves to me that without specialised knowledge one cannot get the simplest of things done.
I've tried everything, read tones of documents (most of them totally useless as clearly written from the position of knowledge) and nothing works.

Again, at least I tried and can now move on with clear conscience - without the icons, obviously.

Still, thank you to those who tried helping out. Time is a valuable commodity and I do appreciate your efforts.

:)

Tiki is very powerful and power require knowledge to master it.

Still your statement is true and we are trying to improve in both direction.
We (the Tiki community) are investing time and working to include in Tiki better profiles and preset configuration.
On the other hand you can also rely on our Tiki Consultants and hire one for your project or part of it.

About having icons in a menu it is possible of course.
CSS + fontawesome would be one easy win, Smarty template another... Depends your exact use case.

Good luck
